Vaginal Yeast Infections-Causes,Types,Medicines For Treatment.
Vaginal discharge, itching and discomfort can be caused by different infections, the most common of which are Trichomonas, yeast (candida, moniliasis) and bacteria. Cleanliness and vinegar-and-water douches (vagina washes) help many vaginal infections.
Specific medicines for vaginal infections are listed below:
WHITE VINEGAR FOR VAGINAL DOUCHES (washes)
Mix 2 or 3 tablespoons of white vinegar in a liter of boiled water. Give 1 to 3 douches a day for a week then 1 every other day. This works especially well for bacterial infections of the vagina.
The tablets to be taken by mouth and vaginal inserts.
This medicine is used for Trichomonas and bacterial infections of the vagina (only use metronidazole for bacterial infections if vinegar and water douches do not work)
NYSTATIN OR MICONAZOLE
This medicine comes in tablets, cream and vaginal insert. This medicine is used for yeast infection (candida, moniliasis) of the vagina.
GENTIAN VIOLET (crystal violet)
This medicine comes in 1 percent solution(liquid). It is used for treatment of yeast infection (candida, moniliasis) and other infections of the vulva and vagina.
Rub on gentian violet once daily for 3 weeks.
This medicine is also known as Betadine. Providone iodine is for the treatment of bacterial infections of the vagina.
Mix 2 tablespoons of providone iodine in a liter of warm that has been boiled. Give one douche a day for 10 to 14 days. This can as well be used as eye drops for the new born. The 10% solution should be diluted to 1% with distilled water or saline
