Pink Eye-Medicines For Treatment.
Pink eye occurs when the conjunctiva is being irritated by an infection, this eye disease is mostly found in children. Useful examples of antibiotic eye ointment are:
- Chlortetracycline eye ointment
These eye ointments can be used for pink eye caused by bacteria and for trachoma. For complete cure of trachoma, tetracycline should be taken by mouth also. Like i said in the previous post on Tetracyclines.
Tetracyclines can also be used for dysentery or diarrhea which is caused by bacteria or amebas, respiratory infections(bronchitis), typhus, cholera, chloroquine resistant malaria.
For an eye ointment to do any good, it must be put inside the eyelid not outside. Use it 3 to 4 times a day.
To protect the eyes of newborn babies from gonorrhea and chlamydia, use tetracycline eye ointment, 1 percent or erythromycin eye ointment, 0.5 percent at birth, put a little ointment in the inner corner of each eye and do not wipe or rinse out.
SILVER NITRATE EYE DROPS
1 percent to protect the eyes of new born babies. If you do not have the antibiotic eye ointments mentioned above, put a drop of 1 percent silver nitrate in each eye at birth. This will protect the baby’s eyes against gonorrhea but not chlamydia.
WARNING : Do not use silver nitrate drops that may have become too concentrated because of evaporation, they can burn the babies eyes.
