Insecticide-Types And Their Uses.

Insecticide is a substance which is used to repel, push away or kill insects. Gamma benzene hexachloride (lindane) which is also known as kwell, gammexane often comes in preparations for people and also cheap preparation for animals which work just as well for people.

The lindane for a sheep or cattle dip is quite cheap but it often comes concentrated in a 15 percent solution and must be diluted to 1 percent.

Mix 1 part of 15 percent lindane concentrate with 15 parts of water or vaseline, and use on the skin for scabies and also for head lice.

NOTE : Lindane is a poison and can cause dangerous side effects including fits especially in babies. Do not overuse. Make only one application; if necessary repeat once more a week later.

BENZYL BENZOATE, 25% CREAM OR LOTION (ascabiol)

This is used the same way gamma benzene hexachloride (lindane) cream or lotion is used.

MONOSULFIRAM (Tetmosol) soap

This can be bought in most markets or shops. It is used for the treatment and prevention of scabies.

SULFUR IN PETROLEUM JELLY (vaseline) or lard

Use this for scabies. But if you cannot get the above; you can mix 1 part of sulfur in 20 parts of vaseline, mineral oil or lard to form a 5 percent sulfur.

PERMETHRIN

This often comes as a 1% solution containing pyrethrin, an extract from pyrethrum plants. It works well for all kinds of lice and is safer than gamma benzene hexachloride (lindane).

Without adding any water, apply the liquid to dry hair until it is completely wet. Do not use on eyebrows or eyelashes. Wait 10 minutes and wash the hair with warm water and soap or shampoo.

Repeat in 1 week and make sure you change clothing and bedding after treatment.

CROTAMITON (Eurax)

This often comes as a cream or lotion that is containing 10 percent crotamiton. Crotamiton is used for the treatment of scabies only not lice.

After bathing, apply over the whole body from the chin to the toes. Don’t miss the folds and creases in the skin. A second application may be used the next day. Take a bath or shower 2 days after the last application to clean off all the cream or lotion. Clothing and bedding should be changed at this time.
