Antispasmodics-Medicine,Use And Dosage.

Antispasmodics are medicines which are used to treat a health condition that has to do with contraction such as gut cramps, stomach pain etc. A type of antispasmodics medicine is Belladonna.

Belladonna often comes in tablets with 8 mg. You can give belladonna with or without phenobarbital.

There are so many different antispasmodic preparations. Most contain belladonna or something like it (atropine, hyoscyamine) and often phenobarbital (phenobarbitone).

These medicines should not be used on a regular basis, but can be used occasionally for treatment of pain or cramps (colic) in the stomach or gut. They may help calm the pain of a bladder infection or inflamed gallbladder. They are also sometimes useful in the treatment of ulcer.


Like i said, it can be used to treat gut cramps. It comes in 8 mg tablet.

  • Adults : 1 tablet, 3 to 6 times a day
  • Children between 8 to 12 years old : 1 tablet, 2 or 3 times a day
  • Children between 5 to 7 years old : 1/2 half tablet, 2 or 3 times a day

Make sure that you do not give to children below or under 5 years old.

WARNING : These medicines are poisonous if too much is taken. Keep out of the reach of children.

Persons with glaucoma should not take medicines that contain belladonna or atropine.
